Publishers Changing Their Thinking

I've just read this article on the Publisher's Weekly Website - Digital delivery helps boost the readership and sales. "The consumers were far ahead of me,” says Kate Duffy, editorial director at Kensington, which launched its erotica imprint, Aphrodisia, in 2006. “For years I thought of e-publishing as something people did because they couldn't publish with us. But then we started seeing all of these stellar talents that had first been e-published. It wasn't that the books were in any way inferior—that was my prejudice. It was a different way of accessing consumers, and it would behoove me to investigate.”

Anyone who has written or reads erotica will find the entire article interesting, but there is a fantastic takeaway point for everyone else.

Publishers are now gaining an understanding that the way people are reading ebooks, the topics, writing styles, genres and authors that are being read, is changing and shifting dramatically. Publishers can now use ebooks to identify where there is a market, who the popular authors are, and embrace, rather than shun, the writers who are taking this publishing option seriously.

Bookhabit is working with publishers to provide just this sort of trend information. If you're a publisher and would like to receive information about our popular titles, and the trends that we are observing, then please contact us at publisherslink@bookhabit.com
